Hamilton, ON – January 19, 2026 – The Westdale, Hamilton’s historic theatre, is celebrating its 91st Anniversary with a Valentine’s Day gala Fundraiser, “The Westdale’s Ninety One-derful Years” featuring a special screening of Some Like It Hot.
The Westdale is throwing a party on Valentine’s Day, February 14, at 7:00pm. The theatre is celebrating 91 years with a gala fundraiser. “This year, we are honouring The Westdale’s history with a screening of a beloved 1950s classic Hollywood film”, says Executive Director, Alysha Main. Originally built as the first cinema in Hamilton to show ‘talkies’ in 1935, this Westdale Village arts and culture hub underwent a massive restoration in 2019. The theatre is now a registered charity that screens independent and repertory films, providing an intimate, heritage-designated space for performances, exhibitions, and film screenings, showcasing independent, Canadian and world content.
Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their glamorous Hollywood best. The Hamilton All Star Jazz Band will kick the evening off when doors open at 6:00pm with live jazz, while guests enjoy complimentary beverages, nibbles from Valentino’s, and of course, the theatre’s famous popcorn!
Ahead of the screening, there will be a live auction featuring a selection of exclusive items and experiences, including a scenic flight over Hamilton, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls.
As The Westdale concludes their 90th anniversary year, this event marks the final push for their 90th Year Capital Fundraising Campaign. All funds raised from ticket sales and from the auction will be generously matched by a long-time supporter, helping to sustain The Westdale for future generations to enjoy.

We present the arts in our community through cinema, music, comedy, talk, and exhibitions. We also provide space and resources for our community to host its events.
SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959)
After witnessing a Mafia murder, slick saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his long-suffering buddy, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), improvise a quick plan to escape from Chicago with their lives. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band’s sexy singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire (Joe E. Brown) as things heat up and the mobsters close in.
